Man United injury latest v West Brom – Red Devils hoping for HUGE BOOST!

first_imgThe international break came at the most inopportune moment for Manchester United. Following their dramatic 2-1 victory over Everton that propelled them into the top four for the first time since August 2013, the Red Devils looked like a team finally turning a corner. However, the pause for European Championship qualifiers and far-flung friendlies has arguably placed greater strain on their progress and now Louis van Gaal’s men must show that their latest success was not merely another false dawn, as they prepare for Monday evening’s tricky trip to the Hawthorns to take on a West Brom side very much in form.Van Gaal will have his hands tied though, as injuries continue to ravage his expensively-assembled squad, leaving nine players on the treatment table. The latest casualty is Antonio Valencia, who is expected to miss Monday’s match with a hamstring problem. The Ecuadorian reportedly first sustained the problem against Everton, but his failure to completely recover means he should be unavailable for selection.Elsewhere, England duo Chris Smalling and Phil Jones are not expected to regain full fitness in time, while recent debutant Paddy McNair joins them in the physio room with a hamstring complaint. The revelation of Ander Herrera’s fractured rib means he will likely miss out, but there is good news in the shape of midfield lynchpin Michael Carrick. The Englishman has been absent this season with ankle ligament damage, but looks to be nearing his return by playing a behind-closed-doors friendly. He has been given an outside chance of making the bench for the Hawthorns clash, with Van Gaal seemingly desperate to populate his threadbare squad with established names.Attack appears to be the only area unaffected by injury, with United boasting a fully fit front-line, although Wayne Rooney remains suspended following his red card against West Ham.Below is a provisional Man United XI: 1 Michael Carrick is tipped to make the Man United bench 1 Man United fans, how do you think you’ll line-up against West Brom, in light of your injury concerns?
